A graduate of the École nationale supérieure d’art de Paris-Cergy, Amine Habki (born in 2000) explores the idea of absent bodies through vibrant textile works. Influenced by his Franco-Moroccan identity, he deconstructs traditional representations of masculinity using embroidery and repurposed objects. His work moves away from traditional canvas formats to explore industrial textiles and three-dimensional installations, blending oriental motifs, primitivism, Italian romanticism, and Persian ornamentation. His aesthetic language, rich in symbols and metaphors, invites multiple interpretations.
Amine Habki challenges traditional representations of masculinity by deconstructing the image of the virile, high-performing man. He expresses male vulnerability through soft materials like fabric and wool, using bright colors to energize his creations. He repurposes objects linked to masculinity, such as football gloves and a wool punching bag, creating new icons where the human body merges with architecture. Each piece reveals a micro-narrative tied to his search for identity and exploration of desire. Though his works are not autobiographical, they feature alter egos that depersonalize and universalize familiar frameworks, giving a voice to absent and marginalized bodies. Through color contrasts, negative impressions, and recto-verso effects, he explores the tensions between absence and completeness.
Amine Habki recently had a solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou-Metz and will next be showing a solo show at Galerie Andréhn-Schiptjenko (Stockholm). In early 2025, he presents a new exhibition in tandem with Silina Syan at Galerie Éric Mouchet (Paris) and takes part in Emergence #2 at Galerie Kamel Mennour (Paris). In 2024, he exhibits at the Institut Français (Tangier) and the FRAC Île-de-France (Paris). In 2023, he takes part in the 67th Salon de Montrouge and exhibits at Andréhn-Schiptjenko (Paris), Le Consulat (Paris), Galerie Joseph (Paris) and The Koople Project (London). In 2022, he won the Artagon and Adam Lavrut awards and exhibited at Villa Noailles (Hyères), 3537org (Paris), Artagon (Pantin), Sample (Bagnolet).
