Oliver Westerbarkey was born in 1969 in Constance, Germany. After graduating as a stonemason, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He currently lives and works in Munich and has had numerous exhibitions in Germany, most recently at the Alte Akademie, Rathausgalerie, Haus der Kunst Munich and Kunstverein Rosenheim.
“Oliver Westerbarkey, in his works conveys that nature can live without humans, but humans cannot live without a relationship with their environment, builds dioramas from natural materials such as earth and plants, analogue representations that resemble an augmented reality: they exist in a physical world, in which what seems most alive in the work is in reality the most artificial […]. His artistic approach is characterized by questioning and ambiguity; the truth of his art can be found in the interpretation of the individual viewer. His works can transport us to a childhood place or experience or create a sense of historical archaeological finds through the museum quality of the diorama.” (Shahane Hakobyan)
