DRAWING NOW 2024

“Drawing the blurry edges of an island identity” reflects Galerie Eric Mouchet’s decision to invite artist Noémie Sauve (1980, Paris) and artist Samuel Trenquier (1983, Libreville, Gabon) to its stand for this latest edition of Drawing Now 2024. Several works by Christine Crozat will also be presented. Large-scale “reprised” drawings featuring lines and floral motifs, in charcoal and graphite, on Japanese paper.

Noémie Sauve’s work reveals the physical structure of an island. On her return from her residency on the island of Vulcano (Sicily, 2021), Noémie Sauve sought to transcribe the island’s geology, movement, contours and history, using techniques such as electrolysis and bioluminescence. Several works from this first scientific expedition were presented at the Drawing Lab, on the occasion of her personal exhibition “Admiratio” in 2024.
Samuel Trenquier’s work is more focused on representing the island’s cultural identity. Using gouache and cigarette paper, the very idea of the “Robinsonnade” is sketched out from the continent, a colorful and abundant vision of an island identity.
