Tony Regazzoni est né en 1982, dans le massif du Jura. Il est diplômé de l’École Nationale supérieure d’Art de Dijon (2005) et de l’École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (2006). De cette culture rurale à la fois préservée et laissée pour compte, il tisse des liens avec le milieu Queer qui l’a accueilli en arrivant à Paris. De la rencontre entre ces deux cultures se dégage un questionnement sur ces esthétiques «pauvres» mais «riches» qui trouvent une certaine accointance avec l’histoire du kitsch et son évolution comme marqueur politique et social.
Son travail se développe autour d’une archéologie ciblée, celle d’une civilisation tournée vers la conquête, la performance, l’opulence de communication, de progrès et de loisirs, dont il réalise le portrait. Si aujourd’hui l’image – qu’elle soit recyclée, photoshopée, filmée ou même faussement «interactive»– prédomine dans son corpus d’œuvre, l’installation comme création immersive et la sculpture y trouvent une part importante.
Son exposition Je sors ce soir à Montpellier en 2019 a fait l’objet d’un travail à la fois documentaire, historique et artistique sur les différents modèles de discothèques principalement européennes. Cette exposition faisait suite au projet Boîte de nuit réalisé au Centre Pompidou (2017) et Mythologies du dancing à Saint-Jean de Luz (2018). Il a effectué une résidence de trois mois en Nouvelle-Zélande (2018) pour réaliser les prémices de son Museum of Ancient New Technologies. Son travail a été récemment présenté au CAC Brétigny (2017), la galerie de Noisy-le-Sec (2019), au MUCEM (2019) ou à la galerie Machete à Mexico (2016). Il a participé à de nombreuses expositions collectives comme au FRAC pays de la Loire et FRAC Aquitaine (2014), au CREDAC et à la Box (2010). En 2022 sa première exposition personnelle R.Évolution française se tient à la galerie Eric Mouchet avec le soutien du Cnap.
