ART PARIS ART FAIR 2023

For the 25th anniversary edition of Art Paris, Galerie Eric Mouchet is pleased to present recent works by two highly committed artists: the South African Kendell Geers (born in 1968) and the Afghan Kubra Khademi (born in 1989).

Kendell Geers considers himself a terrorist in the art world, claiming the need to take position and not hesitating to hijack the most emblematic images of the 20th century to render his message even more striking. In his recent paintings, he graphically associates a bullet hole with the silhouette of a daisy, a flower in which he sees the symbol of the colonizing wealth of the Dutch intercontinental trade of the 17th century. Warhol-like flat tints and his iconic punk “FUCK” complete the composition and make each painting a real cluster bomb.

Kubra Khademi, whose anti-patriarchal and anti-colonial performances are well known by now, as well as her drawings of female sensuality, presents her latest gouaches, painted on the occasion of her performance “The Golden Horizon” recently shown at the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris. In these works, the artist invokes hyper-sensual women, both warriors and goddesses. Kubra Khademi speaks of the place she dreams of for women in a world where they are still struggling to simply exist.
